Teaching Commons Tutors (TCTs) are doctoral students, who help the Teaching Commons to provide support and advice to TAs across the University. To be eligible for a TCT position, you must be a full-time graduate student with proven interest in university level teaching and learning and at least two years’ experience as a TA. Completion of the SEDA accredited courses TACT and STA preferred.
Terms of Appointment
At minimum, a doctoral student assigned a TCT must undertake 135 hours of Tutor 7 work. This may be in either the Fall or Winter terms or may be spread over both terms.
The TCT must:
- Attend a half day TCT induction scheduled for early September.
- Act as TA to the Teaching Assistants Certificate in Teaching (TACT) course, including supporting online and face to face work and grading of assignments.
- Act as TA to the Senior Teaching Assistant (STA) program in the Teaching Commons, including mentoring the STAs and grading of assignments.
- Attend an Instructional Skills Workshop in the Fall semester.
- Attend scheduled meetings three times each term with a designated Educational Developer in the Teaching Commons.
- Liaise with Faculties to promote the work of the Teaching Commons with particular reference to support for TAs.
- Other professional development duties that coincide with candidate’s strengths.
